Recall Daniel Martiny

As many of you know Louisiana District 10 Senator Daniel Martiny voted yea on Senate Bill 672. This would be the bill that raised the salaries of Louisiana legislators 100%+! While I have heard that Senator Martiny refused to accept the raise himself, I have yet to confirm it.

On Monday June 30th Governor Bobby Jindal finally vetoed Senate Bill 672. I am unsure as to why governor Jindal waited so long to veto this horrible piece of legislation, but nevertheless it needed to be done. My opinion is a pay raise is not out of the question, but this was horribly excessive and very ill timed.

Despite Governor Jindal’s veto, that does not change the fact that Senator Martiny still voted for the SB 672, was quoted somewhere along the lines of saying that the compensation issue was resolved on the local TV news, and is now crying foul that Governor Jindal lied to him. I have to say to Senator Martiny that Governor Jindal made a prior promise to the voters not to allow the legislature a raise. Perhaps he felt his promise to voters to whom he is accountable was more important than his deal with you. It would do you well Senator Martiny to remember who you work for - the voters!

This begs the question, should Senator Martiny face a recall petition? I say yes, he should! More important than my opinion is yours, I have to ask those in the district the same question.

A recall effort is designed by politicians to be a difficult process, so recalling the Senator will not be a task for the faint of heart, it must be a committed effort by many. Despite the difficulties the task is not impossible, and I have the utmost confidence that the voters will do what they feel is the right thing. It is time for us to stand up and hold these politician’s feet to the fire! Louisiana must and will learn to govern itself. At a time when our young best and brightest men and women fight overseas to spread democracy we at home must also fight to preserve the values that our nation was founded on.
